Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speech writer. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. But, she also highlights issues related to specific harassment of women on the internet and other minorities who are excluded. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaker and she has delivered talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. From an early age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by the issue of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious young woman was targeted by the Internet for starting a web series on gender in videogames. The harassment didn't discourage her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her as a way of acknowledging all the contributions that she made. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The non-profit explores the portrayals of women in pop culture today.
